Packing & Budgeting for Your Cretan Holiday
Aside from that new bathing suit and beach towel, you may be uncertain about
what to pack and budget for your trip to Crete. Rightly so; Cretas climate
commands a unique fashion and budgeting strategy. Following are suggestions
geared for travelers who plan to sample the pleasures of city and country on
their Cretan holiday. Most important, we recommend traveling light; take only
what you need and leave the rest!
Packing for:

Men,
Children

Women
Pack:
- Casual, sporty clothing: casual shorts, tank tops, t-shirts and other light-cotton
shirts and skirts
- Good walking shoes and/or sneakers (preferably broken in before the trip)
- One to two pairs of dress shoes (one pair for dining, one pair for dancing)
- Hiking boots, if you plan to hit the trails or to go in Samaria
Gorge.
- Bathing suit.
- Light jacket, plus a wrap you can use with a dress (for air-conditioned
restaurants and star-gazing sessions on the beach)
- One nice dress for a semi-formal evening out.
- Sun hat or other head covering
- Light, water-based skin moisturizer. This is a must; the sun and humidity
will dry out your skin.
- Sunscreen: at least SPF 15
- Waist pack or backpack (something other than a purse) to carry with you
when out and about
Leave behind:
- Socks (except to wear with sneakers)
- Heavy coats
- Sequins and taffeta. All of Cretas dining establishments are informal.
- Hair conditioner. The combination of hair conditioner, humidity and heat
may leave your hair flat.

If your child weighs less than 10kilos and you plan to rent a car, you
can either bring a children's car seat or booster seat, or arrange to get one

• Beer, mixed drink or specialty drink: $1,5 - $6
